Salad washer
A wide range of lettuce washers can be adapted to all requirements with options such as rotary small pieces removing drums, peristaltic air system and sieve drums. The Sormac lettuce washer is available in three capacities.
Operating principle
The Pulstar washer has an integrated air injection system, enabling a thorough cleaning action without damaging the product. The quantity of air can be adjusted continuously, so that a stronger or softer turbulence in the washing water can be achieved. The air injection system is divided into two sections, which operate alternatively. This alternating operation of the sections creates a peristaltic movement of the product through the washer.
The in-feed side of the washer is provided with water jets, which assist in the separation of the product and flume it towards the Jacuzzi section. The variable water flow of the frequency driven circulation pump in combination with the switch / change frequency of the air injection ensures that the dwell time within the washer can be accurately programmed.
The out-feed of the washer delivers the washed product and water onto a blue plastic wire mesh belt, the water that passes through can be cleaned by means of either a static sieve or a rotating drum.
The filtered water is held in the retention overflow tank beneath the discharge elevator where it is re-introduced to the washer through the circulation pump.
The out-feed belt is constructed as a dewatering belt, provided with a re-arrangement beater and a vacuum system to aid the maximum removal of free water. The air knife on the end of the belt takes care of removing all product off and out of the belt. In an installation where there is a second washer, the out-feed belt is manufactured without the dewatering section.
